One of my favourite things about the winter months is getting cosy with a warming hot chocolate by the fire and it’s one of my go to drinks when I’m out and about in London and the hot chocolate at Dark Sugars in East London’s Brick Lane is quite simply exceptional. The Dark Sugars Cocoa House is primarily a chocolate shop which serves an amazing selection of chocolates and truffles.
We ordered a classic Dark Sugars hot chocolate (£4), although the menu of options is hugely overwhelming – there are just so many choices. Next time (yes, I’m already planning on going back) I might try the salted caramel hot chocolate (£5.50) or even the cinnamon hot chocolate (£4.50) if I’m feeling festive. While we waited for our hot chocolate to be served we watched the lady chopping up giant slabs of white, dark and milk chocolate into shavings and wondered what on earth she was going to do with them. We didn’t have long to wait – our hot chocolates were placed in front of us but before we could grab them, the lady placed a giant handful of mixed chocolate shavings on top of our hot chocolates as a decadent topping. It certainly looked very impressive!
The chocolate slowly melts into a delicious hot chocolate and it certainly gives my favourite hot chocolate in London (Hotel Chocolat with that amazing chocolate cream) a run for its money! Its the perfect drink to wander round the madness that is Brick Lane with its many curry houses, incredible bagel shops and food stalls.
Dark sugars is based in Brick Lane, Shoreditch in East London (there’s actually two on Brick Lane but the Cocoa House is the bigger one) and I definitely recommend trying it out next time you’re looking for a cosy hot chocolate.
