I love steak but I definitely don’t love the price of it so finding hidden steak gems in London makes me happy and Le Relais De Venise is one of them! I’ve visited the restaurant in Throgmorton Street in City a few times now.
It’s a steak place that only serves one thing on their menu – steak! You can’t book a table so you have to just turn up and it’s normally pretty quiet straight after work but it can get mega busy by about 7pm with huge queues so try and get there early if you can. The restaurant is fairly cramped, with small tables covered with white paper tablecloths giving a simplistic French feel to it.
Le Relais De Venise – What We Ordered
Your waitress will tell you that they only serve one thing on your menu (£27 per person) and then she’ll ask you how you like your steak to be cooked. First up, you’ll be given a bread basket and the first course is a crisp salad, served with walnuts and dressed in a light mustard dressing. I’m not a huge mustard fan but this salad is really delicious and it’s a pretty generous portion.
Next up comes your steak and French fries with a mustard sauce and at first glance it looks like a bit of a stingy portion, but half way through the meal you realise that you’ve only been served half of your steak and they give you the rest once you’ve cleared a bit of space on your plate. They’ll also give you plenty more fries and sauce. It’s a pretty unique concept which I’ve not seen before in London!
If you’ve got space for dessert then there is a dessert menu to choose from and I can vouch for the creme brûlée which is delicious!
Le Relais De Venise – 3/5
Great steak and a fun steak experience but it is quite expensive for relatively simple steak dinner. Flat Iron is a good (and cheaper) alternative for a steak dinner in London.
Food – 4/5
Service – 3/5
Decor / Ambience – 3/5
A meal for two people including a bottle of wine, a shared dessert and service charge cost £90.
