For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to live and work in London and I finally made the “big move” two and a half years ago when I moved down to East London and I currently work for a large, professional organisation in the City of London. It’s only when I visit my parents in who live in the countryside that I realise how different my working life is compared to what it might have been if I had stayed in the midlands which is where I’m originally from. For starters, most people probably start their journey to work in a car, and I have no need for a car in London but here’s my typical #WorkLife day!
#WorkLife – My Routine:
6.45am – My alarm starts beeping but it’s become part of my routine to repeatedly hit the snooze button every morning. Who else has this battle? It can’t just be me …
7.00am – Time to grab a shower and get ready for the day. This morning I caught up with some YouTube while I did my hair and makeup. InTheFrow is one of my favourites – I just love her style and travel vlogs.
8.15am – I leave the house and head to my nearest tube station. This morning I’m super lucky and have managed to get a seat (this is literally unheard of in the London rush hour). I usually spend my mornings reading the news on my phone or drafting some new blog content. In the current heatwave, the London Underground is like an oven and by the time I step off, I feel like a sweaty roast potato. What a great way to start the day!
At 8.55am I arrive at the office and grab my first coffee of the day. I’d given up buying a morning coffee for Lent which went surprisingly well and I’ve managed to continue this going forwards. It’s also helped to save some money too. I have a look at any emails that have come through overnight and check out my diary for the day.
11.00am – A typical morning tends to involve emails (lots of them), various systems, meetings and a LOT of cross team collaboration (yay for collaboration) but this morning I’ve tried to step back from the ever pinging emails. Instead I’m knee deep in excel spreadsheets – its so satisfying once you’ve mastered vlookups and pivot tables!
1.00pm – Time to grab some lunch. I’m trying to bring in my lunch every day and today I’ve got satay chicken with rice which I’m heating up in the microwave. Sometimes I make a big batch of soup at home and I’ll bring that in for lunch. In the City, you could quite easily spend a fortune on lunches so by bringing it in, I’m trying to save money but it takes a bit of planning and preparation the night before or a big meal prepping session on a Sunday evening!
3.00pm – I’ve spent the afternoon preparing for an event that we have next week where delegates from all over Europe are flying in and at 3pm, we have a team meeting to discuss the event and team priorities for the coming weeks.
6.00pm – Tonight I’m meeting a friend for drinks and we head to the SkyGarden for incredible views over the city. The cocktails and the company are great and sometimes there’s even a bit of live music.
9.30pm – I head home and watch an episode of Friends to wind down. This is my all-time favourite TV show and I’m so happy that this is now available on Netflix. I also scroll through Twitter and Instagram and catch up on the day’s social media happenings.
10.30pm – Before bed, I remove the daily dirt and grime from my face using Estee Lauders Perfectly Clean cleanser and follow up with my favourite acid and serum from The Ordinary before jumping into bed. At the moment I’m obsessed with the glycolic acid toner and hyaluronic acid – these two products have revolutionised my skincare routine and they’re such good value for money.
10.45pm – It’s bedtime and I’m ready to do it all over again, it’s only Monday …
